    Hi, if he is 47 then he would need a beginners type routine to get his body used to training again, stick that for a few weeks and then he can progress onto a split type training routine. Along with a good building nutrition plan..

    im guessing that you are bulking to gain weight to promote muscle growth, which means you are gonna have to sacrifice definition in mid section, when you start cutting you will se you abs more & more every week. It will be up to you when you want to change, if you still wanna pack on more muscle dont start cutting yet.

    That is the sad truth, you can't gain muscle mass & get lean & ripped at the same time, I would suggest to bulk up 10% of your bodyweight then change to cutting, when you do I can give you some really helpful tips to get you a ripped 6 pack...D
