    Default Squeezing the muscles

    Can someone please explain what this means? I have read guys that say "squeeze the muscles instead of just lifting the weight"

    What is that meant to mean??

    'Squeezing' the muscles is supposed to make your muscles work harder...

    Two sides to this arguement:

    1. Squeezing the muscles will fatigue your more quickly, require stricter form and lighter weights.... therefore a hypertrophy response should be achieved.

    2. Squeezing the muscle will NOT allow you to use a really heavy weight, nor will you probably be able to apply progressive overload, nor will you probably recruit all the muscle fibers... therefore not the best technique if your goal is strength.

    What are your goals? if your goals are hypertrophy than squeezing the muscle might suit your program just fine...

    I tend not to just stick to one method but do both. I've had some good gains doing heavy one week, then slightly lighter and squeezing the next week. I found I got stronger pretty quick considering I was at a plateauing stage.
