    Default Broken Finger Help!!

hi, this arvo i was playing handball and i smashed my hand into a big steel bar, this was at full pace, fist clutched aswell on inpact, so it was like hitting a steel pole at full pace! Accident too!, like hitting a metal bar in a fight situation.. silly me..

My index finger is realllly sore, cant move it, got a blue spot, very stiff, cant grip or anything.. throbbing pain, cant move down the finger fully.. sore to touch...

could this be a break? and how long do finger breaks take? seems like 2 fingers were affected..

and how long should i rest from training?

Fractured finger is not so bad. You would have it casted and then after 4-6 weeks removed with stiffness and with a little PT or OT and about 2-4 weeks of time you will be back to everything but a little leary of Handball around metal poles.

Sprained Finger-splinted for 3-5 weeks. Followed by ROM/strength by either PT or OT for 3-5 weeks, and possible needing further medical intervention if it does not heal properly. Return to activity a little earlier then a fracture but not by much.

If you do have as much pain and stiffness, I do agree you should consult a physician. Wait 2-3 days for a fracture may not show up on Xray for 2-3 days. ICE WRAPS WOULD BE YOUR FRIEND FOR 2-3 Days or till you see your doctor. RICE-Rest Ice Compression Elevation.

Hope this helps and keep us posted!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Its now been 2 days after the incident, finger feels a bit better, but still bending it forward hurts like hell when i bent it down..

Still a bit swollen, can type better.. cant be broken in this case then i'd say..
The pain feels directly under my index finger, in the palm of my hand, as if its between the nuckle and the palm..

My mate suggested bone bruising, or a crack in the bone or something..

Time to see a GP 2 days from the incident? just that bending it down still hurts. Should i tape it?

Gripping the bone is pretty painful too
