Creating a calorie deficit big enough to lose weight, through training alone, would take a lot of time. If you have that much time on your hands, sure it can be done. But most reduce their calories and increase their cardio slightly.

As Dave has said above, a combination of both diet and training has been shown by studies to be the most efficient way of losing body fat, compared to either just dieting or just exercising

Both cardio and weight lifting are ideal for weightlifters. However, you must always eat more calories to give you the energy required. But cardio burns more calories each session. So choosing it means eating more calories. However, it all depends on your weight. If you are 73 kg, you burn about 250 calories for a session of 30 minutes. So I think it will be helpful if you eat more calories depending on your body size.

If you don’t take enough calories, it is hard to do cardio and weight lifting because you need extra energy to do cardio and weightlifting. Both are high-intensity physical activities. With normal diet you will not get desired results or it may take more time to lose weight.
