    yes and no..

lifting too heavy of a weight will stunt your growth - but lifting weigths you can complete 10+ reps with perfect form with, should cause no issues at all. You can lift all you want, you just need to lift smart

This has been debated all over the forums in other threads. Some people say one thing, others say another.

As of right now, the advice from Medical Associations in the UK and US )( i have no idea about other countries ) is that weight training with light weights/high reps has been deemed safe. Heavier weights are believed to increase the risk of long term damage being done to immature skeletal frames for adolescents who have not yet reaches physical maturity.

To be honest, if Hypertrophy is your goal, there really isnt any need to lift heavy weights/low reps especially during the first few years of lifting as you'll be making gains with any decent hypertrophy routine for a good few years given good diet and rest.

ask these doctore's to give you some evidence or facts to back this up. Some believe lifting exremely heavy weights might affect your growth plates. but , i have never been interested in it enough to research these findings/opinions, since i have quite growing

BTW...let's say they are correct..they still should be able to give you facts to support their claims. too many people never question their Doc's. It is a good habit to get in..

from what i understand, the consensus is not do perform sets with 6 reps and under. so stick to 8-12 reps for hypertrophy

how tall is everyone else in your family?

genetics is going to play a bigger factor on how tall you grow to than lifting weighys (if you are staying in the 8-12 rep range that is) ever will

genetics can be a ***** sometimes. anyways you could still be growing so no worries.

also if you are shorter muscle mass is going to look bigger on you than a taller person, grant so would any body fat, but thats the trade off..

A teenager who is still growing should stick to full range of motion exercises only. !/2 squats is a high intensity exercise that should be limited to experienced trainers only.

I am 16 and 180CM, I can do squats, bench, and deadlift with 92KG and keep it to 12-8 reps. I have grown half an inch since the summer of 2007 and am not too concerned about my growth at this point.. My mom is 5 foot 6, dad is 5 foot 8.. my mom has a few tall people in the family, doesnt go beyond 6 foot 3 though. dad has shorties, with the exception of a 6 foot 4 brother.

please tell me you mean squats. cause lifting a whole sqaud is to much weight I think

I digress, I started lifting at 16 (I'm 19 now) and I'm the shortest male in my family. Chance? perhaps, perhaps not.
Side effects may include; weight gain, increased appetite, increased sex appeal, huge arms, massive strength, XXL t-shirts, self confidence, low fat diet, sexy pectorals, sheer ballsiness, and penile growth. If muscle growth persists for more then four hours, consult a mirror.

im not too worried about this craze, i'm in high school and we have an intense strength training program as we have a great weight room. We do at least 12 reps of as much weight as we can, and go til failure. They NEVER talk about stunting growth etc. Could it be heavy free weights that stunt your growth and put extra stress on your skeleton? We do lift machines for every muscle every other day.
