    Default Too Much Water

    Hello all,

I'm new to this very informative site and would like to see if anyone may have an answer as to why when I work out (both anaerobic and aerobic) I become very thirsty. I tend to drink almost a full water bottle. Perhaps as much as 28oz, 800ml. My workouts are not really that intense and usually only last approximately an hour and a half.
I play drop in hockey and comparative to other players, I drink close to twice as much.

    Stats:
    - 33 years old
    - Male
    - 6'
    - 190lbs
    - Reasonably fit

    Thank you for your time.

Try drinking less in more spread times. Every tens mins or so. Not a mouthful whenever you can

according to my doctor, trainer and nutritionist, you should drink 1 oz of water for every lb you weigh... so you weigh 190lbs, so you should drink about 190 oz of water every day. It sounds like a lot, but that's what is recommended.

I was the same way at first, then after about a week, my body adjusted and I now urinate only a few times a day.

Your body will adjust too, over time.

Too much water can kill you, but your kidneys can get rid of about 1.5 liters of water an hour at maximum filtration. So you would have to drink somewhere around 1,000 oz to get close to that. If you were to drink that much... then the sodium in your body will get too diluted and muscle function, brain activity, etc. doesn't have enough sodium to work correctly. The only thing you would really need to even slightly worry about is losing too many electrolytes, but when you do lose them it is mostly, if not all of the time, when you sweat so gatorade or anything like that every once in awhile would take care of that.
