    Question Oatmeal

I have been reading that Oatmeal is really good to have for breakfast, and breakfast is my weak spot in my diet.

As far as Oatmeal, I know nothing about it. Is Oatmeal cereal good, like the ones you pour out of a box and put milk into it or is the Oatmeal that is good the ones where you have to heat them up?
Don't talk about it, just be about it.

Most of the cereal box types are gonna have a lot of sugar/simple carbs in them... Make sure you check the box label before buying one of those. Its probably a lot cheaper and healthier to just get a tin of steel cut (e.g. Quaker) oats and add your own banana/protein powder/cinnamon/raisins/whatever to taste.

Its pretty easy to nuke it in the microwave for a minute or so, no need to boil water or anything...

You want the ones you have to heat up. It really is simple to make two times as much water as oatmeal. So for a 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water. Then the best thing with oatmeal you can put all sorts of stuff in it for variety. I always put cinnamon and some stevia to sweeten it up a bit. Then can add nuts or fruit, almond milk, I see some even mix there protein in it.

I suggest getting the Old Fashion type oatmeal. The quick oatmeal really isn't that much quicker and doesn't have as much nutrition. There is packets of instant oatmeal that comes in all sorts of flavors, but it has a lot of sugar in it and other stuff typical of processed foods.

The trick to good oatmeal is heating the water in the microwave before adding it to your oatmeal. Then u can stir in the desired amount of "soupyness" you want.

I use Quaker instant oatmeal. Not the 1 minute kind though, it's the 3-5 minute kind.

I buy the cardboard tub of Quaker Oatmeal, not the instant/1-minute type. In my microwave, it takes exactly 3minutes. I put raisins into the bowl with the oatmeal prior to nuking it. Then depending on how I'm feeling I might drizzle a bit of maple syrup on it (real stuff, not the Aunt Jamima junk). Sometimes I'll put a splash of milk in it after cooking.

The best part about the tub is that you can eat for a few weeks on a tub, while a box of cereal lasts a few days. Btw, try measuring out exactly one serving (1cup) of your favorite boxed cereal and it'll be much less than your normal "bowl of cereal."

Don't buy the packetized stuff, while it's convenient if you are backpacking, the flavoring in it is loaded with sugar.

If you have a WholeFoods or other health type store by you, you can often buy oatmeal loose and it can often be cheaper per pound than Quaker. You can also buy other grains that grind up nicely in a coffee grinder to add some bite to your oatmeal.

i use this one: http://www.quakeroats.com/products/o...and-spice.aspx i heat some milk and pour it and mix it. I generally hate oatmeal on its own and with the cinnamon flavour, it really tastes much much better Is this a good one? or shall i use something else(give me a link from the quakeroats website please)?

    Thanks

I use rolled oats and mix in protein shake, flax seed, hemp seed, bee pollen granules, and chia seeds or Salba with a side of berries. IMO a perfect breaky nutritionaly speaking. Tastes great too.

You haven't figured out yet that every time you ask if fast food or processed foods are good the answer will be NO.

Just look at the labels, hopefully the first few ingredients will be some whole food, then if the list goes on reading like a lab report the answer will be no. Also eating good whole foods is usually cheaper in long run. Learn to cook stuff for a few days at a time and you'll save time too.

Yea I'm going to try that one out. What are the benefits of oatmeal, does it contain a lot of protein or what nutrients does it have that is so good?

Its just nutrient dense (high in magnesium, B1, iron, folic acid, phosphorus, etc), easy to find in the shopping center, and pretty damn convenient early in the morning. You can eat other sh*t like, barley, quinoa, rice, buckwheat, oat bran, etc.... I did a post covering a lot of options, I am sure you can find it somewhere.

Theres nothing magic about Oats + whey, its just that people can't be bothered thinking of anything else LOL.

Dude, it's completely up to you. There's no downside to either water or milk (unless you have allergies, of course)

Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal is awesome. It comes in packages, but there is only 1 gram of sugar. It tastes like it has sugar, but it doesn't. It has 7 grams of protein and I think like 6 grams of fiber? I don't remember exactly the amount of fiber. Get the Maple and Brown Sugar kind. It tastes amazing. I don't know how they make it taste sweet without the sugar but it does.
