I don't count calories or ratio's either. I try to eat as healthy as possible with real, whole foods but I can't be perfect because I am simply not perfect!

I don't like eating cake/ice cream/chocolate any more and feel really guilty if I do, and also, I am always choosing whole unprocessed/brown food over processed/white but I do like chicken nuggets/pizza/potato waffles sometimes.

I seem to be putting on muscle and changing shape and also learning more and more about good nutrition as I go. So I guess that's what counts.

When I started running I used the, "Oh I'm running so I can eat whatever I want" philosophy. I learned 2 years later that this mentality didn't work for everyone, but it did for me. I slimmed down really good, but I was lucky. Genetics play a big role.

I would say you should quit the junk food. Protein rich food is what you want if you are looking to build your muscles. You could try out the gym food instead of the junk.

The importance of a good diet in muscle building cannot be gainsaid. It is argued that if you want to eat up your muscles, the only thing you need to do is to toss the diet. I believe eating junk foods even if it is two to three times a week will still impact on your muscles. The reasoning is that when you fill your tummy with junk food, you deny the muscles the right amount of nutrients it needs to grow lean. Also, the body must use the muscles to meet its needs. This is how you end up eating the muscles.

You don't need to eat only healthy food in order to gain muscle, you need to have a total amount of calories at the end of the day, you need to calculate your amount of proteins, carbs, fats, etc.. in order to gain muscle or lose fat.
