Training is the same for females and males, the word "tone" is just a posh word for building muscle, females dont have the testosterone that men have and as such cannot build the muscle that males can, but can "tone" up. Still the same though...hard work

theres a female body builder at my gym. Ive shot her a couple times. She says shes all natural but I dont believe she is. she's pretty big. Id show you a pic of her but I am not allowed to do that. if I could get as "toned" as her but not as big I'd be SOOO happy!

If a female is taking the "other supplements" then normally they start to take on male characteristics, and then down the line they start to need to shave, talk with a deep voice. Having trained many women (natural) for fitness/figure and female bodybuilding competitions, I would be able to tell if she was suspect for "other supplements". lol

I would like to get the best me I can without that. i'd cheat other ways if there was one that actually worked and was safe but i would rather just get there with hard work and dedication. This is my all time favorite female body ever and if there was ANYONE on the planet that i could look like in the blink of an eye it would be this fantastic woman right here: (gonna attempt to attach a pic)

...K that didnt work just google PINK the singer. Shes my hero. LOL

pmsl....the amount of times that I have heard females say they would rather find an easy way is countless.

There is no easy way....1lb of fat = 3500cal so you have to use up that amount of calories though a combination of training and diet...starvation diets use muscle up, and put fat back on.

The body will allow a max of 2lb of fat loss per week (if your lucky) as I have said before, losing weight is easy-losing bodyfat is a totally different subject

yeah I think that first girl was probly a "other suppliment" candidate.
Do you watch bodybuilder porn? Cause I definately wouldnt have put her in that catagory! lol When I think of porn actresses I think of soft mushy "skinny fat" girls with big fake breasts. That first pic was far from that.

No I havent seen any bodybuilder porn but seen a female dressed like that in a porn film....

The bodybuilder females are probably to busy putting fake tan on and training in the gym...

    Hi Doug,

Have a question for you regarding which of your workout programs should i follow.
I've been working out for almost 2 years, mostly fitness, and for the past six months i've switched to building some muscles, insisting more on abs(for a flat belly). The program i use is working all the muscles group, every day, 5 days a week, and a friend of mine told me that this was overtraining and also not very efficient for building muscles. Since i dont know much about this subject i thought i should check with someone that knows: internet. I've checked the workout section of this site but can't decide which program sould i start with. My shape is pretty good, i cant consider myself a beginner, my weight is fine although i consider losing some weight too, mostly for the belly since i feel it stronger but dont see that . I would really appreciate if you can tell me which program would be a better fit for me.

    Thanks,
    Ioana.

Hello! Im from New York too, The Bronx to be exact.
A great program for building muscle would DEFINITELY be Doug's 4 Day Split. its aimed to pack on muscle mass. Working a body part more than once a week is definitely overtraining. Full body workouts should only be used as a fat loss/ tone- up regimen. 1-2 years is definitely not a beginner. Nevertheless, your goals are at war with each other. Meaning that you want the sleek abs with the muscle gain at the same time. It is nearly impossible to do both at the same time. Making abs visible would dictate a GREAT diet with a bodyfat of 10% or less; meaning that you would have to be in a calorie defecit to achieve fat loss with protein being your highest consumption in your diet to decrease the amount of muscle lost in the cutting phase. I'll leave the rest to Doug. Good luck! GET PUMPED

    Hey there,
Thanks for replying me. I'm getting a little bit confused here. According to Doug's postings, tuning up muscles for women equals building muscles for men. So, a program for tuning with some fat loss would probably fit me. Also, building muscles involves losing some weight too. I dont know, maybe i got it wrong but that's what i understood from all the reading here. I just want to "define" my muscles without getting "bigger" since i'm not really a tinny one.

    Regards,
    Ioana.
PS: sorry if i sound idiot, i do am in this field, trying to learn.

Because toning up is just a sissy way of saying "build muscle" .. there is no such thing as toning up.. Its cut fat, maintain, or build muscle.

Toning up is a gentle way of saying it, it really doesnt mean anything more than cut fat and build some muscle.

Ok, so i got it right. But, i did notice that toning programs have more reps than the "building" muscles ones. Which one should i try? That's what i'm trying to figure out. Terms are relative all the time, dont care if it's called "toning" or "building", i do care though which one would fit me better. And as long as these programs look different, i need some help.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to all for replying me,
    Ioana.

Personally, since you're more advanced, and with your goals, I would recommend this one:

Thanks alot Doug and Saurus, i'm going to start the suggested workout program today . Looking forward to.
I have some question regarding this workout schedule though. There are two exercises i couldn't found on the database:
    1. Dumbell Rear Delt Raise
    2. One-Arm Reverse Pushdown
Maybe they are under a different name. Dont know the terminology. But have to look up each exercise and see how to execute it........until i get used to all this.
Also, i was wondering, can i substitute some of the weights exercises with machines?
I mean is there any difference if the motion is the same?
    Thanks,
    Ioana.

I have some question regarding this workout schedule though. There are two exercises i couldn't found on the database:
    1. Dumbell Rear Delt Raise
    2. One-Arm Reverse Pushdown

DB rear delt raise can be found under Seated Bent Over Dumbbell Reverse Fly on the exercise page. One arm reverse pushdown is like the tricep pushdown, but uses a palms-up grip instead of palms down, and of course you use only one arm at a time
