    Default Upcoming UFC fight predictions..

Thought i'd start a little discussion here for anyone interested, see who you fancy for some of the upcoming headline fights! I'll list a few.

Penn vs Diaz; Close one to call, Diaz has well rounded skills but i'm going to go with BJ edging it.

Leben vs Munoz; Munoz if he manages to not get caught with anything while standing.

Velasquez vs Dos Santos; I think this is going to be an all out war! JDS has it in my book though

Shogun vs Henderson; Shogun, he is a better striker and Ninja out grappled Dan, Shogun for me.

Miller vs Bisping; Bisping at first glance, but it will be interesting to see how much Miller has advanced as we haven't seen much of him in a while!

Jones vs Machida; Jones, his recent preformances explain all!

    Whats your opinions folks?

since I'm about an hour from penn/diaz (I had diaz by sd) I'll leave that one out.

Leben/Munoz: can go one of 2 ways. Leben dropping him in the 1st or munoz with a late (t)ko or decision. I think I'll be taking Leben in the 1st by KO

Velasquez/Dos Santos: If JDS can keep it standing its his fight all night. if not then Cain takes a decision. right now I have JDS. but that will probably change

Shogun/Hendo: I'll go with Hendo until I know the health of Shogun. If shogun is healthy then I'll take him if not Hendo is gonna grind him out on he ground for a UD

Miller/Bisping: Miller by basically any submission he wants to crank. Bisping isn't great at any one area of the game like Miller and I think Miller's stand up is more than good enough to deal with Bisping. I'll be taking Miller by 2nd round Sub

Jones/Machida: Jones by GnP in the 1st. I understand the matchup idea here thinking Machida can frustrate Jones by drawing him in but Jones is just too powerful so once he connects cleanly its over from there.

I'll toss in Lesnar/Overeem as well

Lesnar/Overeem: with Lesnars recent illness I expect him to be significantly lighter (somewhere around 250) which will make stuffing the takedown much easier for Overeem to stuff. Couple that with Lesnars hatred for being punched in the face I personally can't wait to watch the reigning K-1 Grand Prix Champ unload on Lesnars face. Overeem 1st round KO

Penn/Diaz: NOOOOOOO! I really wanted BJ to win this one. I hope its not his last fight, he is the king.

    Leben/Munoz: Dont really care

    Velasquez/Dos Santos: JDS

Shogun/Hendo: Hendo via old school whooping

Miller/Bisping: Miller 3rd round leg lock

Jones/Machida: My head says Jones, My heart says Machida. Im Hoping for a Machida T/KO.

Lesnar/Overeem: Overeem 1st round KO. TD's will be stuffed and Lesnar is going to eat large amounts of leather.

So what you guys reckon about the Penn result? Were you shocked? Reckon BJ should call it quits? Same with Cro-Cop, these guys are legends who have made the sport what it is today! Hard to now when the right time it to leave it, it is their lives. I personally hate seeing one of the old school legends slipping down the slope and not getting off when they should, but fully understand!

Penn fight was a bit of a disappointment to me, i expected BJ to be a little more sharper and deal with Diaz's boxing more.

The Overeem v Lesnar fight is going to be good! Completely agree with The Reem having the advantages going into this fight, however Lesnar is one hell of a warrior and a complete machine! he won't go easily, glad to see him back again and he is one strong dude for fighting this off! I still reckon the Reem will take it, but who knows!

It's sad when really talented fighters can no longer work to become the best of what MMA has to offer in their respective weight classes. BJ Penn and Mirko Filipovic were two of the closest fighters to not quite become icons.

I like Penn but age for most people IS a thing in MMA. Fighters like Randy Couture and Anderson Silva aside, most people hit their peak somewhere around 28 or 29 and drop sharply from there. I was not surprised about either fight; Diaz is a beast and Filipovic hasn't been able to replicate success with younger and faster heavyweights during his UFC run.

Since his no-contest 3 years ago with Overeem, these are the people Filipovic has beaten: Choi Hong-man, Al-turk, Anthony Perosh and Pat Berry. His losses over that same period: dos Santos, Mir, Schaub and Nelson. His opponents have had more than respectable talent, which tells you just how far his skills have deteriorated since his introduction to UFC. You can also make a case that he could only be good in a place like PRIDE where the rules allowed a greater advantage to striking and, thus, had more good strikers than good wrestlers. He's a far cry from someone who won the PRIDE GP, stood toe-to-toe with Fedor and destroyed the likes of Wanderlei, a younger (barely) Mark Coleman, Josh Barnett and Kevin Randleman.

Penn, in my mind, had the best potential to be what GSP and Silva are today. If he had won any of his last 4 bouts that became losses (Diaz, 2 to Edgar and 1 to GSP) he could have been in the discussion for getting another title shot instead of being retired. He's had the best of the world thrown at him, absolutely. His career progression mirrors the hard-luck Kenny Florian in a fashion, but where Florian has failed to win a title on multiple occasions, Penn has proven that he can't step it up and claim the pound-for-pound moniker though he's had more than adequate opportunity.

I feel very sad for Penn given his younger age comparatively, but happy for Filipovic since he's stated publicly more than a few times that he's excited to become a family man.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said mate, however i disagree with one point on BJ, he is an icon and as Nick says will be a Hall Of Famer! BJ seems, maybe just to me, to only properly put 100% into training if it's for what he personally feels is a challenging fight i.e. title shot or big name! I mean no disrespect to Diaz by that as he is a great fighter and has proven it, but i mean BJ has his mind set in other places with different fights and his approach to them.

He will always be remembered as a great fighter and Hall Of Fame defo!

Definitely. I was just trying to outline that, while his retirement is a tremendous loss for the UFC, he just came short of being someone with the chops of GSP or Silva as far as a legacy goes. He held the welterweight and lightweight championships at different times, but he defended those titles only 3 times; all of them at lightweight. Certainly a good fighter but not a great champion.

Hopefully Bisping as he's from the same small town as me.

I don't think that Valesquez is going to lose for a long time. He trains like an animal.

Shogun v Hendo is probably one of the best fights I've ever seen.

Round 5 should've probably been a 10-8 imo (making it a draw). Could've gone either way though, and either guy would've deserved it.

    Amazing fight.
