Junk calories are anabolic, just like healthier ones. The healthy version is a better choice, and even though I'm not a fan of grain in my personal diet, a whole grain bagel with wild caught salmon and capers is going to give you a better overall benefit than a doughnut and a hotdog. Refined sugar in large quantities is not a good idea. Not because of the calories so much as the anti-nutrientive part, to coin and mangle a word. You get only calories out of sugar and some negative effects, whilst epic bagel time gives you vitamins, minerals, carbs, protein, some healthy fat, and a debonair appearance.

All that being said, I definitely felt the strength benefits of eating 35k + calories of junk two weeks ago. Not healthy, but 5k or more calories a day really upped my recovery.

Take-away: You need calories to grow, but you'll be healthier if you choose better sources.

people make a big deal of the glycemic index when it comes to carbs. in all honesty, it probably doesn't make the biggest difference where the carbs come from, provided you get decent exercise.

fats might be tricky. then again, it might be another scare tactic.

this isn't my area of expertise. I'm not a nutritionist, a dietician, etc. I know that a lot of things we were made to believe growing up, have been proven false or at least, not entirely true.

My only caveat to that is some things are bad for certain people. I got off my cholesterol, diabetes, and blood pressure medication by ingesting huge amounts of meat and saturated fat and ditching grain and sugar. I still ate lots of green leafy veggies, but most people would think i should have ended up with a heart attack with the amount of bacon, eggs, pork, fatty beef, etc I ate.

Just making sure you get a certain number of calories or protein etc. is not enough if you want to make real progress. you have to get it from the right sources.

All calories are not equal. A calorie from a fried french fry or candy bar is not the same as a calorie from a piece of chicken or steak.

this is the same for fats. Fat from candy bars or chips is not the same fat you get from fish.

Protein from turkey is not the same protein you get from some processed hamburger or cold cut grap.

Carbs from brown rice and oats are not the same as getting a carb from french fries or white bread.
First off i just want to say I love how my thread from two days ago created this one haha, this is a first for me lovin it, lovin it!!

Also you call cold cuts crappy, you obviously don't know about the Boars head brand maybe you should do a little research.... I have eaten Ham and turkey alternately for lunch for two years and whether its been Bulking or Cutting I have made amazing gains, and my body has a great "form" like you say I'm not just trying to get huge or skinny as you said, you have to make sure when you talk brotha, that you talk for yourself and not in general, because like you said..... not everyone is created equal......
Don't talk about it, just be about it.

This isn't your thread dude!! GO to your thread and post that. All I Did here was post the obvious that not all food sources are equal. ANd now people are saying things like there is no such thing as junk food its all equal lol that one litteraly made me Lol. WHy so many people would even argue a good diet and eating good is beyond me, butthat's why everyone is shaped different. Everyone has there opinion and guess It takes all types to make the world go around.

Maybe if you spent less time hating and more time focusing on your diet like some of the obvious key points I made, you would actually accomplish some real goals. But whatever you have to tell yourself to make you sleep at night have at it.

Good point I hardly ever achieve the goals I set. You should check out my training log to witness first hand all my failures. Lol I'm 7lbs away from my goal currently that is set out another 4 months. If I was a betting man I would bet I make it. I enjoy the fact that you presume to know how seriously I take my diet and training as well. I also like your negative and arrogant attitude towards me calling me names like "jealous little kid" or "odd kid" to be honest man the last time I remember being a kid was right before I went to Iraq at 19 to fight for your right to say such foolish things.

I think you need to make up a fake number and stick with it.

Along with what BigJosh said, I swear your training experience said 20 years + before you changed it down to 5-10 years.

    Lol.
My training experience never said that.
And my training lately I've been focusing on the negative on every working set, so the weight is going to have to drop some to hit the desired number that's all. When I'm working out if my numbers change I'm Not just going to keep the old numbers posted.
Was going to video tape a dl cause I can do that on my own, But no one seems to care about that number, I think I have a weak dl too though
