    Default 300 lbs Bench Press

Hi all, I am posting this in the "Over 40s Fitness" section because I'd be interested to know if there are other 'older' members who can, who are close to, or who are aiming for a 300+ lbs bench press.

I've only been back in the gym for about 4 months and my current personal best is 135kg (297.6 lbs) x 3 reps. I'm hoping to build up to 150kg (330lbs) x 1 RM in the coming months...

Note: I'm also doing squats, dead lifts, overhead presses, etc.... just using the Bench as a general measure of upper body strength.

As explained in my intro thread, I live in a small town and attend a small gym. I don't personally know anyone who can bench 250+ (let alone 300+), so I'm looking for some 'virtual' training buddies to have some friendly competition with...

    I'm 47, 5"10, 255lbs. (aiming to lose ~20lbs). - photo on my profile page.

Life is short... think about it!

    Hello.
    I'm 46 , 5'8" and 168-170 lbs. I hit a 300 Bb press a week ago.

But being a Bber, its not ME's x 1 that I truely go for. I just hit them on my power/ME workout days.

    I'll race you to a 330lbs 1RM. Current PR is 315lbs x 1 that I've hit that 2-3 times this summer. By the way I'm 20, 5'6", and 175lbs or so. I hit the 315lbs attempts around 175-180lbs.

A race? I love a bit of competition but if you read my last post again (or check the link to my youtube video), I already did a 330lbs lift.

However, 315lbs is a VERY respectable lift for someone you age/weight.. and stronger than me on a pound for pound basis!!!

    I'm 47, 5'10" and a hefty 260lbs!!!

Let me know when you hit 330 and I'll race you to 240....

Welcome to the forum. I'll be 45 soon and am close to 425 raw right now. I have a buddy who is 54 and can knock out reps with 405 like no ones business.

Still plenty of strength left in us old geezers.

    Thanks for the welcome Steve.

    425lbs. Awesome!!!

I'm hoping to get up around 400... Eventually. But I'm happy with my progress so far (after 4 months in the gym).

Main thing is, I want to keep it raw, natural and FUN!

I got back in the gym last year and dove right into Steve's 5 day PMB split! I have gained a tremendous amount of muscle and truely enjoy the routine! I don't normally do a 1 rep max however last week i performed 4 sets 5 reps with 265 lbs. Up from 185 lbs last year! I am 41 yrs old 6' and 255 lbs. I also run and at 255lbs i still finish 3 miles in just over 24 minutes. Steve you are an inspiration! Thank You!

Dude, I was excited just to bench 225 1 time. If I can do a little bit more than that, I'd be happy. 300lbs for me is like dreaming! (Unless I start a cyle of roids or something). I'm 45 now!

Roids not required. Consistent work and eating will get you there. 49 here with 2-3 years lifting, currently at 320 and not done yet. Keep working hard!

I'm 53 and use to lift frequently when I was younger, but stopped for many years. I only recently returned to heavy lifting and can already bench 360 (about 6 months). I'm hoping for 405 by the end of the year.

Wow you guys are putting up so much weight. I am 42, 5'8" 157 lbs, and I do have a goal of benching 300 lbs. However, I am no where close and do not know quite what my 1 rep max is. Once in my life, about 20 years ago, I put up 215 or 225 with horrible form and pretty sure I pulled something. So obviously, this is a long term goal for me. Currently I can do 165 for 5x5, and just starting on a strength program(3rd week). Initial goal is 300, then I would like to work on 2x body weight(If this is reasonably possible?)

    Some serious strength their folks.

Haven't trained since I was 30. Now at 40 I started 4 months ago and currently benching 97kg / 223lb for 5x5. Not sure what my one rep max is at the moment. Next time I hit chest (Monday) might give it a go.

My one rep max at 30 was 255lb if I remember correct.

Planning on smashing that this time round

Reviving an old thread... but thats OK because I started it over 4 years ago!

Not long after posting the original thread, my circumstances changed and I stopped attending the gym. I changed job (twice) and moved house and now have a home gym in my garage. Been training consistently for 3 months....

    I'm now 51, weigh 130kg (286lbs). I recently managed a 170kg (375lb) Bench, with poor form and have a video of yesterdays 165KG (363lb) Press, as well as 100KG (220lb) x 20 reps.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg7MwFT76yw

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKQbKtBJvXQ

My aim is to hit 180KG / 400lbs in the next few weeks and then start working my way to 200KG / 440lbs

So, the title of this thread is no longer valid.... 300lbs is just a warm up weight now...
