Embarrassingly, I was the idiot at the gym yesterday.

It was my FIRST day as a proper member at my new gym (I'd visited on a free pass before)

Anyway, their plates are smaller so I didn't realise how much weight was on the BB on the squat rack. So I unloaded the whole of one side before doing it evenly and the whole BB toppled off the other side, weights going everywhere and making a huuge racket.

My face was red to say the least

I can't stand when that one person grabs 100 pairs of DB and hogs them like they are they ones using DB today....is it really necessary to have the 40s 45s 50s 55s next to you at the same dam time... Oh not to mention the couples that work out together and the dude thinks every ones staring at their chick... One more thing to the men that stare at men working out I go to the gym for the same reasons as you to get my swole on!!!

Had to wait for two friends both doing curls in the squat racks before I could get a rack to do squats in, sucks being the small guy in the gym.

    two observations to report!

    1) first set, guy grabs 90s on db press, half reps throughout than increases by 20lbs...do it proper you twat.

    2) guy bursts into the gym does db curls..leaves..comes back 15min later, does another curl set, leaves saying that he's so pumped

    Hahaha, nice to meet you

I did something stupid the first day at the gym too; some of the machines look alike, quite literally, same colour, same sort of shape, set-up etc...so, I set-up, started pressing and nothing budged...checked the load, seemed fine...started heaving again...then it dawned on me that I was on the wrong machine and should have been pushing upward on that one, not outward...There was a guy taking some interest at my shennanigans, to which I calmly got up, rolled my eyes, smiled, and then went to the right machine...

He says great and proceeds to the belt tree and picks a belt. I ask him why does he need a belt for squats. His reply "Dude I'll be reppin' out 475 today!" I reply "Dude I will be damned impressed, and will definitely hang around to see this!"

I ignore him as he ramps up 2pps at a time until he has 435 on the bar. He is kind of messing around killing time, so I ask him when he's gonna rep it out. He says as soon as he gets a drink of water. So I wait for him to come back and he promptly crawls under the bar, unracks, steps back, and does the most beautiful set of 4 reps somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 ROM.

I bend over, pick up my gym bag, and walk out the door.

Ok so this kid approaches me at the gym this week and says "Dude! You missed it. I repped 525 the other day!" I reply "Dude! I didn't see you rep 435!" He tells me yeah, I didn't get depth on those 435's, but I hit parallel on the 525's. (insert facepalm here) So we have another date next week. Details to follow. Maybe I can get him to let me video the event

    Here's a funny story.

One time I'm working in with someone on the squat rack. We're talking, getting along, talking about power lifting and strength training. Good stuff. He goes off to the water fountain, and I'm reloading the bar for something else, currently 3 45's on each side. I have no idea what I was thinking, I unload one side completely, and by the time I pull the last 45 off the other side topples over and the weights come crashing down.

But wait, here's the best part. On this side of the rack, this guy had an iPod with the iPod plug in music player beatbox thing...and that thing was hit dead on by the plates. I looked in sheer horror...as the weights crushed the damn thing...the music was still playing...for about 5 seconds...and then it just faded away.

Thats when I turn my back and the guy starts to walk up.

Kidding. The guy was kind of upset but I told him I would pay him back for it next time I saw him. Used to carry about 50 bucks in my wallet each time I went to the gym after...but I never saw the guy again!

So through almost my entire time in the gym today I was in front of the power rack deadlifting, which is the only place with enough room. A couple bros come up and kick my notebook aside, roll my 275lb barbell away and start doing pushups in the power rack. May I remind you that I wasn't actually inside the rack, and they had room, but really, using the only rack for pushups? As soon as they both finished I yelled "Hey boy,I'm still workin here!" Also had a very adrenalized,****ed off look and one hand on the knife clipped on my pocket. Later right after I set up for romanian deads I came back from spotting a friend and my bar was gone! I walked straight up to the guy and just stared at him until he put my bar back. No mood for stupidness today.

so far aside from "idiots in the gym" I've come to the realization that literally no one aside from myself and my lifting partner put any weights away after use, or they simply can't read as there are roughly 12 signs around the gym saying put your weights away. pretty simple imo as there is at least one weight tree by every piece of equipment and yet usually all of the bars, plates and DBs end up scattered all over the floor. really grinds my gears.

    Crazy.

The best I've had these past few weeks is one guy who uses a weight belt for split stance barbell curls, as well as for his deadlift-partial upright row-reverse curl-overhead press 'clean and press'.

Saw a guy last week come in, head straight to the belt tree, put it on and cinch it up tight, then proceed to knock out one helluva tricep isolation routine on the cables LOL

Main reason I don't like this is because after the person leaves, no one seems to know if someone is still using the rack or not... Cleaning up and putting away your weights lets people know you're done and that bar is open for someone else to use.

So theres these two usual idiots (I call them tweedle dee , tweedle dum) who spend like an hour on each compound movement they perform, a total of 3 hours was spent yesterday doing Squats, Deadlift and MOHP. Good on them for doing the big lifts , but stupid of them to be performing these with horrendous form...... their Squats are the WORST... so much lean forward (on a friggin 3pps ) you'd think they trying to take off with the bar behind them as wings, also when they squat they USE 2 X 45 plates on the floor for heel stability for each FOOT..... so basically half the plates in the gym are under their jurisdiction when they lift. Credit for lifting heavy but with form so atrocious no wonder one of them wear a Robo-cop like shiny Knee brace thing....& the other one makes the local Gym Dykes jealous with the amount of soft bosom he carries about when heaving all that weight about (talking about his BW there). Sigh anyways rant over I guess I'm gonna have to get accustomed to their presence, its my fault really since I swtiched my training days from M-W-F to Sunday-Tuesday- Friday I'll be seeing them alot more! just dreading the day when I need the rack & they are only getting started

"Here's the thing...Something like 80% of the population doesn't even workout. Out of the 20% that do 80% don't squat... And out of the 20% that do squat, maybe 10% of those actually SQUAT! Not smith machine squats, not 1/4, not 1/2, or 2/3 squats, but actual squats... So call me surprised when I see someone doing 2/3 plate full ROM squats so effortlessly"

    Gym 1RM's (December 2014)

    Squat: 180kg 400lbs
    Bench: 130kg - 287lbs
    Deads: 225kg 497Lbs
    MOHP: 87.5kg - 193lbs

    Big 3 Total = 535kg - 1179.67lbs
