    Default Hockey Training for goaltenders

Hey Guys, Im 15 years old and eyeing an NCAA spot right now. I need to step up my workout a lot. I've got about 3-5 years of experience under my belt and a fully equipped gym with a personal trainer if I need him. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a full week program to build strength, but stay quick.

    Thanks

Being a goaltender I'd imagine you want to focus more on flexibility and staying lean.

Do lots of stretches. Squats would help you big time too.

I was a forward and squats improved my acceleration greatly.

Make sure your focusing on your athleticisim. Power, Agility, Balance, strength, flexibility, etc.... Then also keep working on your skills. Pad slides, skating, recovery, rebounds... You can easily combine the two.

IE: A towel on the ground, you sit on your knees in a butterfly. Bounce up with both knees and catch a tennis ball. You can bounce up and turn 90 degrees, or 180. Working your recovery, your reactions and your balance. I got this exercise from CompleteHockeyPlayer.com.

    Hope that helps, good luck!
