    Default My advice for beginners

Hi all i thought i would try and do my part for this forum as when i started i had so much help from the guys on this forum

my aim was to build muscle when i first started, i weighed 154 pounds 13.2% body fat and i am 5ft 6 inches tall.

3 months on i weigh 167 pounds, 12.1% body fat (was 11% but just had xmas lol)

in summary my lean mass was 133.72pounds at the beggining and now its 147.76pounds so ive gained 14 pounds of mass in 3 months and still going :-)

Now my advice to you new guys is you can research research all you want i did and at times got very confussed (just read articles on this site) and let me show you how simple its is- once you no your goal

#Get your diet right!! for me this is the number one rule without this mastered you will struggle to reach your goal.

    # keep motivated find a programme that suits your goal and you,

    #work hard in the gym,

The best advice i can give is try and keep motivated you will have times in th e gym that you really enjoy, but you will also have times that you find a real struggle, as long as you keep going on bad days and enjoy your good days thats the key!!

I hope this helps people, i am in no way an expert just the same as you guys, im just trying to give you new guys the encouragement you need to keep going and im open to questions, there is so much you can learn but just keep it simple and the gains will come ;-)

It's always good for people who have just started to encourage others who want to do the same. I'm glad this site has helped you so much.

Havce you considered starting a log to show your progress as well? You never know who might look at it and be encouraged. And it's always nice to share your progress.

14 pounds in 3 months is excellent.

I've just been on a 4 month bulk and added 10 pounds, so I'm a bit jealous

The best advice that I could give anyone is to focus on form and not weight. Being jealous of the next guy in the weight room is nothing. When you get your form right, you will start to add weight and then you will be able to have people be jealous of you. Just takes a couple of months and a regular routine.

Mark, you can start a log of your exercise routine on this forum - go here http://www.muscleandstrength.com/for...ining-Journals and take a look at the sticky post at the top, tells you how to get started and also how to link it back to your profile (if you look the left under my avatar, you'll see the link for my log, Steveo also has one). Take a look at some of those on the forum page to give you an idea and then construct your own. It's good as well if you feel you're not doing as well as you should/could be or you're having a bad day, these guys will always give you a boost.

No matter what your goal (powerlifting, bodybuilding, sex appeal, sports oriented), there's only 3 basic ingredients to this game:

Lifting: This includes proper lift selection and a good balance of lifts, with a mind to progressively increase resistance.

Eating: You need at least 0.5g of protein per lbs of lean body mass. You need to eat above maintenance calories to grow.

Rest: Not only do you at least 48hrs off before hitting the same muscle group again, you need to get a good nights sleep.

99.5% of your focus should be getting the above right.

0.5% of your focus should be on the small stuff like what supplements to take. A lot of beginner threads are about when to take a PWO shake or the best time to eat during the day, when they should be asking about their squat or deadlift.
    Goal:

    700kg (1,543lbs) total

    Progress:

    0%==========||==========100%

I think its great when new people encourage other new people to do great things.
I think you are on the right track for sure and deserve all the credit you are getting
I think that you should start a log of some sort and show us your progress bro.

Think my advice would be get a notepad and pen and let it be your bible. If you go to the gym focused on what you need to achieve you will get much more out of it!

Starting the log was the best tool I could of started. Not only does it help you go back and look at previous weeks numbers, but it keeps you motivated and honest in your workouts. I contribute allot of my gains to this log because I can physically see my gains as they progress, keeping me motivated!
