    good for cutting too
    I quit drinking over 10yrs ago (I wasn't very good at it anyway). I can't say it had any ill effects on playing sports the following day, but I was young and didn't know any better.
    Now if I could only quit smoking. I'm sure it effects my lung capacity, but I can typically out run/out play kids 10+yrs younger than me. If I got winded walking up a flight of stairs, it would be much easier to quit.

    I aint touched a drop for over 12 months. Even when my diets off and the weight piles on I feel good to go to the gym. Not saying booze is the ultimate pariah: if you fancy a brew go for it; but for me teetotal is the way to go,

    I drink some fri-sun and you are right, the junk/bad food I eat while drinking has probably a worse effect than the alcohol itself.

    oh, you smoke? let me tell you a story...that might help you quit. My dad died of lung cancer when I was 9. Granted, he smoked A LOT. Like 3 packs per day. But, nonetheless, it can hurt your health in the long run. Please try to quit. I say that from my heart to you.

    yes, i agree. it's not evil. lol but, it messes with my workouts...so, for now, this is an experiment of sorts. so far, i don't miss it. :}

    I have been drinking a lot more lately and I have yet to feel any real adverse effects from it. But i still dont think i am drinking to much. I have 1-3 beers 1-3 times a week. It might be getting worse though. there are 3 new Micro brewers opening a few miles form my house in the next few months, and beer is so yummy its not to drink it.

    I wouldn't really panic too much about that quantity, by a beer are you talking about a pint, a half, a bottle (300ml ish) or a can (330ml, 400ml)? (I can never quite work out American units).

    Basically a couple of units a day of alcohol won't effect your health significantly. I think a lot of people here in the UK have had bigger alcohol issues, it's kind of ingrained in the culture, though I think that is changing. The normal here for a 18-25 year old might be 1-2 nights out a week with 20 units plus each night, something like (4 beers or cider (pints), a couple of cocktails, 6 jaeger bombs, a couple of alcopops and then a gigantic kebab)*. Compare that to a litre of beer twice and it doesn't look so bad huh.

    *Until I met my lovely girlfriend last year, this was a standard Friday or Saturday night for me. I now have an occasional glass of wine or cider with a meal and little else. Saturday mornings are glorious occasions, I never knew how much time there was in a weekend.
