    Default Craiger's "Not-So-Normal" Training Journal

    I've learned a TON in these last few days (nutrition and how it affects my body). And now that I have an idea for what I should and shouldn't be eating (still learning a lot), I figured it was time to start my journal.

    I've been eating really well, but having a hard time hitting my caloric and protein goals. For a big guy, I'm having difficulty eating enough. So I need to try and find foods that will give me enough calories and protein without filling me up too much/fast.

    Last night, Bev and I went on a 40 minute bike ride. 35 minutes were a liesurely 8mph and 5 were all out, ride-as-hard-as-I-can. Not sure, exactly, how many calories I burned, but it sure felt good! Quality time with the misses and some exercise to boot.

    My goals are quite simple, honestly: lose body fat, gain muscle, strengthen core, lose cane, and get off pain pills.

    Tonight will be a "lift" night. I'll update you guys with how it goes....

    Okay, here's my first entry:

    Had a good workout, tonight. Warmed up on the elliptical for 5 minutes.

    Lat pull downs (sitting on the floor): sm/med/lrg bands, 3 sets, 30 reps
    Free squats: 3 sets, 15 reps
    Sitting (bench) chest pulls: sm/med/lrg bands, 3 sets, 15 reps
    Calf raises: sm/med bands, 3 sets, 20 reps
    Skull crushers: sm/med bands, 3 sets, 20 reps
    Standing flies (4' from door): sm/med bands, 2 sets, 15 reps (each arm)
    Bench press (laying on floor): sm/med/lrg bands, 2 sets, 15 reps

    I had to stop at two sets of flies as I started having some pain in my right shoulder.

    I forgot to mention, I got the little woman involved with my workout, last night. She was spotting me for skull crushers. As I was having to use the pulleys on the bottom of the door, I couldn't reach them after I'd laid down on my bench. So, naturally, I asked her to grab them for me. First time wasn't too big of a deal, but the second and third, I think she was starting to get annoyed. LOL!

    Here's a picture of me and her, last weekend. We started going out just after we turned 16, got engaged at 17, and married at 19. Will celebrate our silver anniversary, next year...and don't regret one single minute or decision ever for being with her. Love her to death!

    You just described a lot of what Bev does for me. Honestly, it's rather humiliating. I use stretch laces that I tie once so my tennis shoes will slip on, easily. :-(

    Ha, ha! Yeah, she's a little lady (about 5'4"). :-)

    And thanks...being happy sure helps with what I deal with. I'll certainly be keeping up on the workouts. Especially, now that I have you guys for accountability and encouragement!

    My cardio numbers are in:

    Take note, I wore 2.5 lb. ankle weights for entire ride. Workout was followed up with an EAS chocolate protein shake (2 scoops) in 16 oz. of Breeze unsweetened almond milk. Good stuff!!! I have one of these protein shakes after my strengthening workouts, too.

    Warm up: 1.0 miles, 17-18mph, level 5
    0.5 miles, 13-14mph, level 3
    0.5 miles, 23-24mph, level 8 (heart rate 130-135)
    0.5 miles, 14-16mph, level 5
    0.5 miles, 13-14mph, level 4
    0.5 miles, 23-24mph, level 10 (heart rate 140-145)
    0.5 miles, 13-14mph, level 3
    1.0 miles, 15-16mph, level 5

    5 minute break

    Repeat 2 more times for a total of 15.0 miles and 456 calories burned.

    Note: my pants felt very loose, today. I'm pretty close to, comfortably, moving down a notch on my belt. :-)
