    Cardio Challenge...Day 6

    Stepper:
    5 hr 35 mins
    335 mins

I had intended finishing the challenge over the next 2 days then thought, oh what the hell and finished it today instead.

Weirdly no DOMS today, calves were a little sore but not anything you could call DOMS. My upper back still feels a little tight.

Slight lower back ache toward the end of the session and aching feet but nothing major.

The above was split in 2 sessions with a slight break; going to rest tomorrow.

    Cardio Challenge, 1,000 mins completed.

Well, I think I can say this definitely was the bump start wanted to get me on track

    Lots

I forgot to mention, now the 1,000 mins of cardio in January is out of the way, the cardio will be dropped back to around 25-minute minimum or 45-minute maximum session, with the maximum duration being there for the odd days when I fancy doing a little more but mostly it'll be 25-minute sessions.

Last year was a really bad year in terms of workouts, though strangely, I still managed to hit at least one new PB

I'm hoping this year will be a lot better and am really happy that throwing myself in to this weird cardio challenge, although I decided to work at it and get it out of the way, seemed to go well...now all I need is for that train to continue to move full steam ahead for the rest of the year.

    No cardio today

Strangely, given that I could barely walk for the first 2 days, following the initial session, the DOMS today have been non-existent. The calves know they've done something but it's not a DOMS feeling or an overly achy feel or even pain and the upper leg which felt like it was going to just give on the second day's cardio is perfectly fine.

Everything seemed to be getting easier yesterday, even during the cardio...so, I guess you can kill DOMS by slaughtering them with lots of continued activity...blasting through that DOMS-barrier, quite literally.

I agree that you can work through DOMS with continuous activity. I'm actual a lot more sore when I work out less.

A cardio-off That'd be funny to watch too.

Nah, you'd be okay What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...well, apart from the DOMS the first few days which kinda get in the way a bit.

Yep, activity seems to help me as well; DOMS aside, I injured my back when I was 14y/o and if I have to have a day of rest, my back the day after is always extremely weak...give it 24 hours and it seems to improve but it makes juggling migraines and my back a nightmare.

Intended to have one day rest, had to have a second day but bed rest because of an extreme migraine which did not let up at all yesterday...today, my head is okay but my back is weak I should know the routine by now but that doesn't stop me being ticked off at it

I can still lift (when it eases, I mean; 24 hours of being up and about normally helps) and I can still walk...there were times, over the past 3 decades that I found myself stuck/paralysed on the spot, albeit temporarily, so the fact that I can walk and do lift is great and I hope it never goes the other way to full or even partial paralysis.

My upper back had been bad for a day or two, which may have been a slight precursor to the migraine as well; hubby wondered whether the long stepping sessions may have jarred it in to stiffness etc...but the upper back is a normal TOS side-effect/issue, so it's difficult to say.

I still managed, nevertheless, to do some research and a bit of not so light but not heavy KB work, nothing worth noting, it was just a technique thing which isn't something you can really explain in a log anyway.

Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Thanks Frither, PowerPixie...no worries, it happens; been happening since I was about 14y/o which means I'm used to it even if I don't like it, at the same time.

Headache (not a gentle headache ), rest, then weak back...repeat

Head is a lot better today but I'm having to watch my back due to the cycle above, might be lifting today but unsure at the moment...I may get to do some light stuff and just be happy with that.

Last week, I lost 3lbs in weight......ate 18 packs of crisps (chips, US), and quite a few doughnuts, in my snacks last week...bad 5kg

I was a bit surprised to see that I'd lost weight, I have to say.

Anyway, it looks like I've had a rest week, almost, as opposed to a day or two, so hopefully I can get things back up and running again; without all the running, of course

A few days ago, I was taking a look through some of my 2010 logs, that's inspired me quite a bit...so when this back lets up, with any luck in the next 24 hours, I can get back to some heavy hitting In the meantime, it will be gentle movement to assess directional issues, if there are any, *fingers crossed* that there aren't.

Yeah, 18 bags of 'em and weight loss...definitely the stepping, I reckon.

    Form work:
    KB snatches

Lightweight used to work on form, that way no "off" movement would cause an issue; it went well. Sets throughout the day to reinforce the movement pattern.

    Today

Just messing with grip work today...I found this and wanted to give it a shot; I can't use my 7.5kg plates because they're too large, for my hands, so this intrigued me:

    Plate curls:
2.5kg plates (x2); so, 5kg total per curl
    sets of 5 reps

Seemed to go well, considering I haven't done them in a while; the left grip isn't as good and the plates started to slip apart on rep 4 of the sets but nothing drastic, just pushed it back in line and carried on.

Didn't sleep too well, had a flare up of eczema which I haven't had in quite a few years, so I was a bit, a lot, irritable during the night.

Don't think my thumbs would appreciate that movement! Maybe not as bad if you hammer curled?

That's pretty cool regarding the grip curl. The leverage would be an issue for the hand, not just the grip. Any grip goals this year?

I think hammer curl would be worse, with the hand under the plate there is a certain degree of balance and griplessness (as opposed to weightlessness ) when it's horizontal, whereas with a hammer curl there would be none and much more grip required to compensate for that, I think.

    Thanks Joseph

Grip goals, mostly with the finger-DL, and the barbell 2-finger DL (which most call a finger DL, as well); I would like to get to 40kg with the former and whatever I can with the latter, since I already have 40kg on that...though I've only done it once, quite literally.
