    Lightbulb Babs' Unconventional Log!

Most of my sessions are unconventional and if the session isn't then the exercise or at least one of them more than likely is, so the log title seemed fitting.

As with the last log, this won't be an overly detailed log, I have paper for that aspect of my training and prefer to put lots of detail in the paper version which is more easily accessible during training if I want to double-check information; the paper version of the log includes anything and everything that I feel may have affected the session whether it be for good or bad, from the possible lack of sleep to the wrong meal or mistimed meal or workout and so forth, to a different grip or stance.

    1st Jan:
    KB swings @ avg. 50 rpm (+/-)
    1,750 total reps
    35 minutes total time

Cardio session only today, due to a slight headache. Split into 2 sets done back-to-back with a brief breather; reps were counted randomly every so many minutes to see what the average was and then multiplied up which works out to around 1,750 reps total, give or take one or two reps.

Cardio session, today; slept badly, well, technically, I think I slept at some point but woke tired but had decided to hit this session today, so, I did.

I was ready to give in at the 9 minute mark but hung in to the end. Glutes hated me, at the start, for the first 30 minutes or so, due to yesterday's KB session...my feet and legs hate me now.

    Stepper:
    4 hours total
    240 mins

I had a short break of 15 minutes halfway through.

Cardio Challenge update:, 275 mins done: 725 mins remaining.

This session isn't a normal session, by any means, and not something I tend to do, it was done as a tongue-in-cheek throwing the friendly gauntlet down, for a challenge of 1,000 minutes of cardio in January...even though, that averages out at 33 minutes a day, I felt like just having some fun with it today. Hence the 4 hours

    Hahaha, you better believe it

4 is such a little number The theory is, if I get the challenge out the way, I can get back to my training, plus I really wanted a kick-start to my cardio with last year being such a cruddy year, and I have to admit I wanted to put a little friendly pressure on the Challenge Leader, for the pure fun of it.

I once did a 1,000 push-up challenge in 4 days...you couldn't pay me to repeat that particular experience, jeez did my back hate me for weeks; the TOS (thoracic outlet syndrome) didn't help matters and I should have left the challenge well alone but me being me...I went ahead and did it anyway.

Now, if the 50% of 1RM DLs for reps in 10-minutes comes up again, I'll probably be all over that one, trying to get to the 100 reps which I just missed out on last time

Did I mention, I was a little nuts?

Cardio Challenge...this was funny, what with the distinct Robocop Walk I woke up to...but I figured it wouldn't hurt any to get the muscles pumping.

    Stepper:
    90 mins

Woke up today, with major calf DOMS, been there before though, and an additional set of major DOMS in the inner/upper thigh (adductors/abductors, I'm guessing)...I'd intended doing less cardio today but had expected 2 hours, no way was that happening though

Strangely, the most painful part was the lowering the leg to the floor which hit the muscle the most (the inner/upper thigh area).

Glutes were fine, no quad or hammie discomfort (unless you count the inner thigh), so that's all good.

Doing all this cardio may seem a little odd but it's a great boost to get me going which is more important. The DOMS will eventually subside whether that's before I end up unable to move or not we'll see.

Even the numerics are comical: 275, 725...to 365, 635 and not even planned that way.

Cardio Challenge, 365 mins done: 635 mins remaining.

I find also descents more DOMS provoking than climbing.

Yep, getting there , 1 minute at a time The DOMS thing is really weird, you'd think it was raising the leg that would be the problem but I guess it's the upper leg muscles dealing with the weight of lowering that really puts the pressure on them.

Haha, don't they just, they were even worse today...and yup, the strange numeric kinda stood out; if I manage to make it to the round 500 tomorrow, once again, it'll be an odd numeric all the way through but after that the gloves are off.

Woke with a migraine and/or cluster headache, so no training, which wasn't all bad, I get to rest the legs up which are even worse today but beginning to feel better and the head pain has all but subsided, a bit late in the day, but still, almost pain-free head now.

    Yay for pain-free!

Complete non sequitur: My husband tells me that the Orkney Islands are north of Scotland (his mom's from there) and that it's a bitter cold place. Yet the photos looks so nice!

    Thanks PowerPixie.

It's currently 39F here; I recall when we moved up here that I wore several t-shirts, a couple of sweaters, and an outdoor jacket whilst all the locals were walking around in short-sleeved t-shirts...it was July...but we soon got used to the temperature, as you do, and it's nothing to see me walking around outdoors, in Winter, in a t-shirt.

That first year though, I ended up with flu, due to the change in temperature from the place we originally came from in the UK, such was the temp change.

We do see people up here running around in really bad Winter weather in shorts and often tourists will take a second look, one even mentioned that they were hardy people up here because he was wearing a wax-style waterproof heavy coat with sweater etc and others had t-shirts on, once again that was a Summer day but he wasn't used to the climate at all and was only visiting.

Some crazy mental challenge going on here!
A bad knee can sort of throw it off...I was going to alternate and do a little upper body cardio work but I thought better of it, don't want to aggravate the TOS too much and I did do the first original 35 mins as swings, certainly wouldn't want to be doing them for hours though.

You can say that again, you add a little more on and yet the finish line seems to move further away, psychologically, at least.

    Cardio Challenge...Day 5 (day 4 was a rest day)

    Stepper:
    5 hours
    300 mins

Yesterday's rest worked in my favour, in fact this 5 hours seemed easier than the initial 4 hour bash.

Legs were great with just a little discomfort but barely even that, in the calves; the soles of my feet ache a bit now but they're not that bad either...we will see what tomorrow brings in terms of DOMS.

Cardio Challenge, 665 mins done: 335 mins remaining.

I woke up to a slightly stiff upper back, so I reckon I must have slept wrongly but no problem.

    Tally to-date:
    Day 1: 35 mins KB
    Day 2: 240 mins stepper
    Day 3: 90 mins stepper
    Day 4: Rest
    Day 5: 300 mins stepper
