Default Teenage female, why have leg size doubled?

Hey guys. Brief background: powerlifting saved my life. I had an eating disorder about two years ago and since taking up heavy lifting and eating organic, I have recovered and feel stronger than ever.

Yes, I understand that at 90lbs and a size 00, I was a TWIG. But before my eating disorder, I wasn't that small, but never huge. My legs are bigger than ever now though, after powerlifting.

Granted, they are muscular. But as a 16 year old girl at 5' 5.5", whos mother still thinks I am going to turn into a man from going to the gym, she is freaking out because I have to get all new pants. Nothing fits!

I'm not a bodybuilder, I don't take supplements, and I eat very healthy. I train daily, lift 4-5x a week, and do HIIT/ met con 2-3x. Whats up?

Adding size/strength with a consistent/dedicated program will add size to your legs.

Well if you truly had an eating disorder, it is likely that you had limited muscle and body fat. By eating properly, it would be no surprise at all. Doubling very little is quite comprehendible, no?

By they way, congratulations on beating said disorder.

Agreed. Don't forget it's easier to squeeze into clothes when you aren't muscular and still be comfortable. My girlfriend has the same problem. Muscle doesn't give too much when trying to fit into skinny jeans for example. When you had little muscle mass you may have been able to tuck yourself into a size smaller comfortably but after building muscle it won't be as comfortable so you go a size up.

    Nothing gives. You are fine.
Buy new clothes if you must and continue lifting. Muscular legs look good in shorts and skirts so no worries.
Lots of women from our local CF gym (although i do not condone crossfit) added size to their legs with heavy squats....but it does not look bad

    good luck to you

Easy. Just tape a bunch of magazines to your legs. Covet the legs in loose sweat pants and nobody except you will know the truth!

    Hahahaha. That's funny.
But no really, I am on Jonnie Candito's free 6 Week Strength Program. Look him up. Absolutely amazing. He just asks for a donation if the program works for you.

Hi Natiann! First, i think a good majority of girls have had some sort, or another, eating disorder, at some point in their life. I know i have. The good thing is that you knew it, and you've done what you can to correct/stop it, and the weight lifting...great idea on your part. I'm sure your mom prefers the new you, regardless of having to buy new clothes. It's the lesser of two worries, i am sure. Keep doing what you're doing.

This is true and such a shame. And so many think the "but most chaps don't like skinny girls" argument actually helps. Like these poor girls do what they do for the male species only! It's a real mental anguish and not easy to determine the cause. Anybody reading this that think they may have an issue, I advise you to seek medical help.

as a weightlifter, buying clothes to comfortably fit our legs has always been a problem. Its quite embarrassing for me to take an hour to find jeans that use to take 10 mins to find. I remember the first time I had a squat workout & waking up the next morning to find that my legs had some definition in them. As far as eating disorders go, as soon as you learn to cope with them, your whole life tends to change for better or for worse in short order. In your case, you did some considerable hypertrophying. Good job!
Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardship & decide not to surrender, that is strength.
