    Question Leg presses or DB squats for mass routine

    My last chiropractor recommended that I don't do barbell squats, and my experience with my back health tells me it's probably good advice (for me). I know that "nothing replaces squats," but such is my situation. So instead of BB squats in a standard A/B full-body mass routine, would you go with DB squats or leg presses? The routine starts with 3x6 squats in workout A, then 3x6 deadlifts in workout B.

    I would think you would want to minimize the load on your spine if your chiropractor is recommending not doing squats. Choose leg press over squats. Supported rows or chins/pulldowns over dead lifts. Seated press over standing. Donkey calf raise over standing calf raise. Etc....

    Is the issue up near the traps where the bar would rest on your shoulders or somewhere lower? If it's not a recommendation due to pressure of the bar on your upper back I would think anything that loads the spine would be just as risky as squats, especially dead lifts.
