Fat loss is all about nutrition: your caloric intake has to be negative. That means you eat less calories than you consume.

AND Yes, training with weights is the most efficient way to train for any objectif, including fat burning. You don't have to do cardio at all if you don't like.

Pay attention to your diet and train smart wight weights and your results will come.

Albert8100 - Not sure if serious.

As mentioned above, it is all about being in a consistent caloric deficit in order to lose weight.

You can lose weight by being in a deficit and training weights only, however, cardio is good for the body, so up to you really.

Absolutely, however after a week of not eating any food at all you'll probably want to kill yourself.

Just eat slightly less than you burn, at 290lbs, 2000calories is probably too few, adjust until you lose around 1-2lb a week then stick with it for the long haul. I'm guessing you've got at least a year, if not 2 before you're down to a healthy weight, you definitely won't do it by drinking lots of water and green tea. Avoid anything faddy, avoid anything extreme, you want a serious lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

Learn to cook, buy veg, fruit, meat, pulses, grains, and make food out of them. Generally speaking it's a good way to avoid eating too much crap and enjoying food. A good rule of thumb: If you don't know how something is made, it's probably not very good for you.

In order to lose weight you should continue yourself calorie deficient. Cardio is good for health and I don't recommend giving up on cardio. 10 minutes of cardio is better than 30 minutes of weight lifting.

Cardio is great for heart health, but by no means is it necessary for weight loss.

    What make you think that?

It's incomplete at best, and inaccurate at worst.

??? Don't know where you get your info from??? But I beg to differ. Yes, cardio is good for one but I would definitely not say it's better than weight lifting!

10 minutes of LISS Cardio would equate to minimal calories burned unless Mant meant HIIT which could make a difference based off INTENSITY

Well, since this is an older revived thread, I'll add some food for thought.
Try 3 sets of 20 rep squats and then tell me which you feel may burn more calories...the squats, or 10 minutes of cardio.
Guarantee if you do those squats with sufficient weight, you won't even want to think about cardio for at least ten minutes, let alone do it. (Just playing with concepts here...please don't hate on me for not being a fan of cardio)

My experience says, cardio is better than other fat loss exercises. One kg of muscle burns 50 extra calories a day, whereas 1kg of fat burns just three calories a day.

You can do as much cardio as you want. You wont lose weight unless your diet matches a caloric deficit.

That's a myth. It's been demonstrated that pound of muscle, at rest, burns about six calories per 24 hours, while a pound of fat burns about two calories.

The best way to burn fat isn't solely one type of exercise, but a combination of them. Implementing cardio into your routine would certainly be more beneficial than just resistance training alone.

That being said, your diet must also be in check. But if you create too big of a caloric deficit, your metabolism will slow down and the opposite of what you want to happen will happen. I would not suggest a caloric deficit greater than 500 calories.

Losing weight is simple when you know how. You simply have to build muscle to increase your metabolism which will burn excess fat. When you build muscle, your body has to burn more calories just to keep those newly acquired muscle alive. You essentially will replace fat with muscle. The best way to achieve maximum weightloss and get cut is to do:

    1. Full body workouts with weights 3 times a week.
    2. Cardio exercise for at least 30-45 minutes
    3. Don't reduce calorie intake!! Instead eat the right foods. Eating unhealthy food and not exercising is the reason for weight gain. The goal is to build muscle to build metabolism and lose fat. So in order to do that, you have to eat good food and enough protein.

This is a sure-fire 100% way to lose weight and burn excess fat.
    Get shredded triggering muscle growth:

It`s possible because it`s all about nutrition. You will lose weight only with calories deficit (and you can create it even without cardio). But why not to help to increase the calories deficit with cardio? Your weight loss process will go even faster. But be careful and don`t do too much cardio or it will make things even worse. Try not to do more than 45 minutes of cardio and don`t do it every day...Good luck

I'm seeing a lot of good advice and similar themes,
but make sure you keep water intake HIGH. this keeps the body hydrated and is especially important for one undergoing a caloric deficit to keep metabolism and energy at optimum levels. make sure to cut out high-sugar smoothies/high calorie drinks like soda and milk if you are trying to lose weight. eat your calories don't drink them.

Yeah, you could do it, I also don't like doing cardio so I stick only with low glycemic carbohydrates, its a slow process but it works.
