Default So I am thinking of competing need advice.

So I know that I am a very long way from being to compete (at least a year, and that's if I really kill it) I have been thinking of competing, either figure of bikini, what advice would you give to someone just starting towards that journey?

A couple of thing. On social media, seek out others for friends that compete. Also the internet has abundant of information on competing or guiding you through the process of competing. Last but not least, search your area for contest close by and check out a contest to see up and personal others that are doing what you want to do. I would talk to a couple of competitors at the show and ask them how they got started and get some tips and ideas from them.

Also, if you have competed, what challenges did you not expect? Mentally, physically, financially?

You have to be very consistent and dedicated. Probably will be moments when you want to give up but those moments make the difference.

This is only the mental part of ecuation but I think is the most important one.

There are some members who could help you much more with details about competing.

Hi, I,m Bruce from Rhode Island, I was inspired by my girlfriend who said go for it, you look great after swimming for 15 years so you are on the right path. I started two years ago with my trainer once a week, and then every night in the gym, EVERY DAY !!! I became surrounded by good people to work out with, who believed in me and I believed in them. Two guys are ex-military, there is no "I,ll try" in ther vocabulary. Chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoe, eggs, every meal, every day, no drinking, no sweets, black coffee. We worked out together, apart, long hours, on vacations, morn ing, noon and night. I believed. I lost 40 pounds and 10 inches in my waist. I had a goal to my show date, I read quotes from Brady, Belicheck and Ortiz, Mentally I became prepared, confident and ready. I took 5th out of 7 in my class, not bad for a first timer @ 59 !!! Go for it, believe in yourself, work hard, listen, learn and watch. Surround yourself with good likeminded people, make them push you !!!

Definitely get yourself a good trainer (one that has prepped competitors before). When I started out I saw my trainer twice a week. Follow the program they give you to a T! Also question everything... after all it's your body so you need to understand what you are doing and why. Competing is expensive... so be prepared to spend up on supplements, training, food, bikini, tanning, makeup etc. Try to surround yourself with supportive and like-minded people. Go for it girl!
