    Default Want to try powerlifting

    Hi guys,

    Only been training a few years but had a friend say i should try entering a powerlift meet towards the end of the year. Not sure what sort of numbers i should be looking to hit before i take the step as i wouldn't want to go and make myself look stupid. Obviously don't expect to be competitive but would like to not be miles off everyone else.

    Currently weigh about 168lbs and lifts are:

    Deadlift: 510lbs
    Squat: 330lbs
    Bench: 230lbs - definitely my weakest lift by a long long way

    Hi there UKnovice. Google strength standards - this will give you a good idea of where you're at with the weights you move. Your Deadlift is excellent! Squat and Bench look about intermediate for your body weight of 168 lbs.

    Thanks mate. Yea not sure why I'm particularly good at deadlift, the 510 went up pretty quickly so confident I can stick another 10/20 on if it were a comp.
    I'll take intermediate though, was worried I'd be embarrassed by everyone else.
