    Default Masturbation and weight-training.. Can they go together ?

    I am 26, turning 27 this december.
    I just started serious gym training. A bit late I know.

    It seems the opinion on whether weight-trainers and bodybuilding aspirants should totally give up on masturbating , is divided.
    Some people think it affects muscle gains. Other thinks it doesn't.

    What should I do?
    Is there a max number of times per week a weight-training guy could masturbate.

    Don't be so "hard" on the OP. This is a legit question as I'm sure there are many who wonder if it affects your "growth". OK, all puns aside, we work hard to try and build and some of us need all the help we can get. Including the question, does sex (however you do it) deplete your testosterone levels and limit muscle growth? I'm sure there are many who would change their "pleasure" routines if they knew it affected all the work in the gym.... I've wondered that myself

    OP, maybe you should ask your doctor....

    Your question it's a very subjective one.

    It depends on the testosterone and other hormones level in your body, your general health level, medical problems etc

    A healthy sexual life involves two partners in my opinion, don't exagerate with masturbation.

    I think the question is an honest and legit question that many people wonder and should be asked without feeling embarrassed. I don't know how old the OP is, but I do know that most young dudes have a much stronger drive than me. I guess you could say everything on this forum is "subjective" since it's focused on "Muscle and Strength" but isn't that what the OP is concerned with? I think he is in the right place to ask the question, it's up to the experienced people who have dedicated their time and hard work and have learned through time on how they want to respond to the question. Isn't that the reason people come here?

    This ain't a bad question, many boxers and athletes abstain before a big event. I just recently read "Convict Conditioning" by Paul Wade and he claims abstaining a couple days can help one overcome some exercise plateaus.

    OK Sarabjeet, I asked my doctor and he said it actually increases testosterone production. Perhaps if any others have asked their docs and would be willing to share, we could have a better idea. I would think it's good to keep the lines primed, but don't take my word for it.........

    It's irrelevant. The only reason not to would be if you are competing in a day or two, and then only in increase your drive and aggression. The effects on testosterone do not matter in any way for building muscle or losing weight.

    Essentially, masturbation can increase the amount of testosterone in the body by a little but I don't think it's significant enough to affect muscle gain.
