I appreciate the response and the link, I guess I'm just wondering if there is a certain way to go about what I'm trying to achieve. Which is to gain strength while not gaining a lot of muscle mass, I'm very quick and I guess I'm just concerned about losing that because of bulking up. (If this doesn't make sense it's because I am truly new to this and haven't worked out with a goal in years)

As you have "just started" you will gain some strength performing any type of routine, once you have mastered the technique of the different exercises you can then decide which way you want to go. Take a look at the different routines in the link I provided.

Since I'm a girl who doesn't want to be too bulky, apart from my regular fitness routine, I swim as often as I can (diving included), because it definitely makes me stronger, without building muscles too much.

I recommend you check out either starting strength or stronglifts 5x5--those are both great starting points.
