"You can't out-train a lousy diet"
I appreciate the response and the link, I guess I'm just wondering if there is a certain way to go about what I'm trying to achieve. Which is to gain strength while not gaining a lot of muscle mass, I'm very quick and I guess I'm just concerned about losing that because of bulking up. (If this doesn't make sense it's because I am truly new to this and haven't worked out with a goal in years)

Since I'm a girl who doesn't want to be too bulky, apart from my regular fitness routine, I swim as often as I can (diving included), because it definitely makes me stronger, without building muscles too much.![]()
i wouldnt be concerned with bulking up unless you increase calories significantly.
stick to compound strength programs
I recommend you check out either starting strength or stronglifts 5x5--those are both great starting points.
