    Default Question about muscle belly and tendon length

    Hello, I've been training lightly for about 2 years, mostly riding my bike up to 30 miles a day during the summer. I was recently reading about how the average achilles tendon length is 3-4". Mine are 10" which apparently gives me the potential to be a fast runner/high jumper. Also, I can fit three fingers along my bicep tendon.

    My actual question is...if my calves and biceps have short muscle bellies and long tendons, does that make this the case for every muscle in my body?

    According to Matt Brzycki's "A Practical Approach to Strength Training"; "As with muscle fiber type, a person's muscle-to-tendon ratio may vary from one muscle to another" (Brzycki, 1995). So your muscles and tendons could share the same ratios, or they may not. Muscle-to-tendon ratios are just one of numerous genetic factors that determine strength potential.
